Mayors of more than 2,100 Brazilian cities requested in an official letter from the Conectar Consortium, this Thursday (6), help from the Ministry of Health to support the rapid testing of the coronavirus, outpatient structure and stock of anti-flu drugs.
The document, signed by the president of the consortium, the mayor of Florianópolis, Gean Loureiro (DEM), justifies the request for tests “in order to identify citizens who could be vectors of transmission for Covid-19, especially under the new Ômicron strain “.
“Although cities have continued with the use of different measures to contain the spread of the virus, rapid population testing is the way to identify with the necessary speed the individuals who need to be isolated and monitored”, he explains.
According to municipal administrations, outpatient services were affected with the increase in influenza cases in conjunction with those of Covid-19. Support is requested for temporary expansion with professionals or physical structures that can help with care.
With the high demand in health facilities, there was a depletion of medicines such as Oseltamivir, which is important for the treatment of severe cases of flu.
“This medication is lacking in various parts of the city, whether in public pharmaceutical assistance or even in private networks. In this way, it would be of great value to send additional stocks of the aforementioned drug or special resources so that cities can purchase supplies to deal with this increase in cases, essential for rapid treatment and resolution in its initial form, not allowing that the staff evolve”, he concludes.
