Mayors of ten capitals support vaccination of children against Covid-19

Mayors of ten capitals support the vaccination of children under 12 years of age. The Butantan Institute is preparing a new application for authorization to immunize children and adolescents, from 3 to 17 years old, with the CoronaVac vaccine. The document should be sent to Anvisa this week.

The supporters are the managers of the cities of Cuiabá (MT); Campo Grande, MS); Goiania (MS); Boa Vista (RR); Palms (TO); Aracaju (SE); Recife PE); Teresina (PI); Florianópolis (SC) and Belém (PA). All mayors stressed that they will follow the measure only when it is approved by the Ministry of Health and has a guarantee of safety.

Questioned, the National Front of Mayors (FNP) reported that it supports the immunization of children aged between 5 and 11 years as long as the measure is approved by the Ministry of Health.

Some countries like Cuba, Chile, China, El Salvador and the United Arab Emirates have already started vaccinating children under 12 years old. In Brazil, there is still no authorization to vaccinate this age group.

On November 12, Pfizer made an official request to the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) to vaccinate children aged five to 11 against Covid-19.

So far, Brazil has already vaccinated 82% of the adult population. The percentage of Brazilians immunized in general is 62%.
