Mazda’s “The Shape of Time”

Italy and Japan are closer than you think. And the flaming MX-81, first concept car by Mazda which saw the light 40 years ago, is proof of this. The futuristic car, in fact, today has come back to life thanks to the meticulous restoration completed in our country, and its long history has become the heart of the documentary film. The shape of time.

Presented to the world in these hours on the occasion of a videoconference that has gone beyond geographical boundaries, the film explores that indissoluble bond between the two countries, only belonging to distant countries.

A bond that not only appeals to that commonality of visions in terms of design, creativity, engineering and technological avant-garde in the automotive field, but first of all to relationships between people. Some happened almost by chance, others perhaps guided by destiny.

The docufilm, made by Lungta Film, underlines how the innovative spirit and far from conventions that led to the creation of the famous MX-81 is the same one that animates today the MX-30, Mazda’s first series-production EV, which retains the handcrafted shapes of the Kodo design. Just what is inspired by the energetic movement and harmonic lines present in everything around us.

To underline the timeless bond, an unprecedented image of the two cars as they look at each other, as if in a continuum between past and future, embraced by the Milan Cathedral.
