Arcos Dourados, the franchise that operates the fast-food chain in Latin America and the Caribbean, opened a new unit in neighborhood that is considered the largest Japanese stronghold outside Japan.
The surprises already start on the restaurant’s façade. Inspired by icons of Japanese architecture, it receives ideograms with the signature of the “McDonald’s” brand and welcomes customers with an instagrammable lamp that mixes the chain’s logo with the traditional lanterns of oriental culture.
The interior decor is very different from what customers are used to at other units in the chain, with sofas and pleasant lighting. Those who prefer the outdoor area for their meals can contemplate a true Japanese garden, which has a small cherry tree, which symbolizes love, renewal, hope and happiness, as well as graffiti that depicts cultural symbols such as lanterns. and Torri, a traditional Japanese gate.

“At Arcos Dorados we have a deep connection with our customers and the communities in which we are present, so in this new unit our goal was to honor Japanese culture and genuinely connect with the region. Now, residents and regulars at Liberdade will be able to count on McDonald’s for the various consumption occasions during the day, whether for breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner”, says Ricardo Guedes, Vice President of Operations for the Brazil Division of Golden Arches.
