Yesterday, July 27, McLaren officially unveiled the 765LT Spider convertible, which is equipped with a powerful enough 765 horsepower engine – this is the most powerful open car in the history of McLaren and the fastest convertible in automotive history. The fact is that in terms of engine power, the 765LT Spider has plenty of competitors with a much larger number of “horses” (the Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabrio, for example, 838 horsepower under the hood), but the engineers decided to win due to the streamlined body, weight and downforce. Thanks to this, the convertible accelerates from zero to one hundred in 2.8 seconds – the same Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabrio with a much more powerful engine reaches a hundred in 3.5 seconds.
The engineers also said that the McLaren 765LT Spider weighs 49 kg less than its closed version – this was achieved by the absence of a standard strong roof, as well as a carbon structure (the folding roof and body kit are made of this material), a titanium exhaust system and discs from special lightweight metals. In addition, for the sake of reducing the total weight, the developers even decided to abandon the installation of an air conditioner in the cabin and a standard speaker system. However, if a potential buyer decides that saving a few kilograms is not as important as the ability to cool the cabin in hot summer, then acoustics and air conditioning will be supplied free of charge. As a result, the car is lighter, and the downforce is 25% more.

The manufacturer also noted that the McLaren 765LT Spider performs very well not only at the zero to one hundred mark, but also at higher speeds – acceleration to 200 km / h takes only 7.2 seconds, and the maximum vehicle speed is 330 km / hour (this speed is electronically limited – theoretically, the car can go faster). On the other hand, driving a convertible at this speed will not be very comfortable.

The cost of the McLaren 765LT Spider starts at 400 thousand dollars, but there is no information on trim levels or additional options yet. In total, these convertibles are planned to be released 765 copies, but all cars that will be released before 2021 have already been sold out on pre-orders.
