For his first film as a director, Channing Tatum he did not choose to tell a story of hardships, but of feelings. In Me and Lulu, that we will see at the cinema on May 12, in fact, lends his face to Briggs, a big man with a good heart who will embark on a road trip together with his dog Lulù who, as the poster of the film points out, «will not die at the end of the film». Distributed in Italy by Notorious Pictures and positively received by both critics and the US box office, Me and Lulu starts from a deep bond: the one who tied Tatum to his dogwho passed away a few years ago.

Hilary Bronwyn Gayle / SMPSPThe film, however, is also the story of a deep friendship between a man and his best friend, ready to embark on an exciting and fun journey in which two difficult characters will learn to know and love each other. It is a real road movie in which touching moments of encounter and clash alternate with hilarious twists that will lead the two protagonists towards the road to happiness, playing with the typical stylistic features of romantic comedy accepting, however, also to show also some contradictions underlying American society.
The idea of Lulu and I, which Channing Tatum produced and co-directed with his partner Reid Carolin and their production company Free Association, was born from the previous documentary War Dog: A Soldier’s Best Friend, which the two had made, always together, for HBO. Once he lost his beloved dog, Tatum has, in fact, felt the urge to explore and tell the deep bond that unites man with his faithful companion to exorcise and overcome pain. The key, in short, is that of listening and understanding, and it is wonderful that Tatum, who has always been associated with the role of the tough guy, has chosen to make his debut following such a sweet and romantic story.
