MEC announces new Enem model from 2024; understand what changes

The Ministry of Education (MEC) announced this Thursday (17) what changes will be applied to the National High School Exam (Enem), starting in 2024.

The new Enem format should meet the needs created by the new High School, which began to be applied this year and should be fully implemented by 2024.

The current high school curriculum was designed around two axes: basic general training, with an emphasis on Portuguese and Mathematics, which all students will have in common, and Training Itineraries, which students choose according to their aptitudes and future aspirations. .

Based on this curriculum, the Ministry of Education defined how the new exam model will work.

New Enem

The Exam must continue to take place over two days. In the first one, students will be submitted to questions that have as reference the National Curricular Common Base (BNCC).

For the second day, candidates will choose between four curricular blocks options – which combine two academic areas – according to the higher course they wish to attend.

first test

The first test will be interdisciplinary and contextualized, that is, there will be no distinction between school components, with emphasis being given to the areas of Portuguese and mathematics. It is also at this stage that students will write the essay.

Unlike the current model, the assessment of the English language will be integrated with questions in the Language area.

second test

The second test, referring to the Training Itineraries, will allow candidates to choose between four blocks, at the time of registration:

  • Block I – Languages and Their Technologies and Applied Human and Social Sciences
  • Block II – Mathematics and Its Technologies and Natural Sciences and Their Technologies
  • Block III – Mathematics and Its Technologies and Applied Human and Social Sciences
  • Block IV – Natural Sciences and Applied Human and Social Sciences and Technologies

Question format

Currently, the Enem test is composed only of multiple-choice questions, with five alternatives each. In the new model, other formats can be used, including the so-called “open items”, that is, essay questions.

According to the MEC, it will be up to the Anísio Teixeira National Institute of Educational Studies and Research (Inep), responsible for the Enem, to assemble the questions and decide which formats will be used.

In the case of writing and eventual essay items, the MEC suggests that these represent 25% of the score.

Bonus for technicians

Another novelty that should be implemented in 2024 is a bonus system for students who have attended technical education. In this case, the bonus will be defined from the adherence of the technical training with the desired higher course.

modernization

The new Enem will seek to promote the gradual transition to digital tests and the use of new technologies, such as adaptive platforms and new automated correction processes, such as artificial intelligence to correct open items and the writing.

According to the Ministry, physical evidence will be kept until all participants have guaranteed access to the technology.
