Citing unnamed sources at Netflix, The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the streaming giant has decided to ditch all cryptocurrency-related advertising campaigns.
The ban on cryptocurrency advertising is a kind of preventive protective measure that will allow Netflix to avoid claims from regulators. In most countries, in case of detection of fraudulent schemes or a direct violation of the law, supervisory authorities have the right to punish the site advertising these projects.
The imperfection of the legislative framework and regulation of the cryptocurrency industry, as well as the unpredictability of the sanctions consequences, forces a major player in the media industry to play it safe in order to avoid possible charges, fines and lawsuits.
In the new version of the Netflix advertising policy, in addition to crypto assets, political advertising, advertising of gambling and the promotion of products for children were banned. The streaming giant is also considering a ban on drug ads.
Recall that in March, Netflix and the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform announced the launch of a joint project – the Pplpleasr Shibuya video service, where NFT holders will have the opportunity to influence the plot of films.
