A few days ago, the information publication Modern Warzone published the news that the next part of Call of Duty is being created by Sledgehammer Games, which released Call of Duty: WWII in 2017. According to them, the new part of the popular franchise will be released in the fall of 2021 and will be called Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard, although, of course, this may well be a working title, which will be changed by the time of launch. And today, March 26, the journalists of the Eurogamer publication, citing their sources in Activision, said that this information is correct – the creators of WWII are really responsible for the development of the new part of the shooter.
Considering the relatively positive reviews from critics towards the 2017 project, this can be called good news. Also, media representatives added that Activision really decided to return gamers to the setting of World War II, as you might guess from the title. However, there is no information about the storyline yet, although the number “2” in the title hints at the connection between the narrative and the original shooter. And, of course, such attention to the Second World War on the part of the American publisher is quite surprising – apart from WWII, the publisher hesitated to use this setting with Call of Duty 2, which was released in 2005.
The only question is how the developers plan to integrate the WW2 setting into Warzone – the two previous parts of the shooter (Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War) are directly related to the battle royale, which significantly increased the sales level of the last release. But how to put the weapons and equipment of a 1945 soldier in the modern military world is not entirely clear. On the other hand, the developers of Warzone promised to detonate a nuclear bomb in Verdansk soon, discarding the map during the 80s. Perhaps this will allow for the appropriate integration of the new part of the shooter with the battle royale.
