A recent Counterpoint report showed that MediaTek leads the SoC market for smartphones, although its share in annual terms has declined significantly. As it became known, MediaTek is also the leader in the US market, but only if we talk about devices with Android, since more than half of the US smartphone market is occupied by Apple.

This time the source is IDC specialists. Their report covers the fourth quarter of last year. As a result, MediaTek took 51%, while Qualcomm’s share is 47%. The remaining crumbs of the market belong to Samsung.
The positive dynamics of MediaTek is already clearly visible here – in just a quarter, the company increased its share by 10 percentage points, and since the beginning of the year, the growth has almost doubled.

First of all, only a few bestsellers of the American market in the price segment up to $ 400 helped MediaTek achieve such success in the first place. These are Motorola Moto G Pure, Samsung Galaxy A12, Samsung Galaxy A32 and T-Mobile Revvl V+.
Another victory for MediaTek in the US market was the acquisition of mmWave certification from some major US operator (probably Verizon). This is very important because Verizon still prefers this band in all of its 5G smartphones. For example, Verizon doesn’t have the top-selling Samsung A32, as it doesn’t support the stipulated range.
