Nearly half of smart speakers and smart displays sold worldwide in 2020 contain a processor developed by MediaTek. This is the conclusion reached by analysts at Strategy Analytics, who estimated that 151 million devices of this category were shipped over the year.
Over the past two years, MediaTek has more than doubled its share of the smart speaker processor market. Synaptics is in second place at the end of 2020. It is followed by Allwinner and Amlogic. Strategy Analytics clarifies that Synaptics has become a major player in the smart speaker market following the acquisition of Marvell Multimedia Solutions in 2017. It is expected to show the largest growth in market share this year. Meanwhile, the degree of market consolidation is already quite high: the processors for 87% of all smart speakers sold in 2020 come from just five leading suppliers.
