A new addition to the family of MediaTek Kompanio chipsets. A new single-chip platform called MediaTek Kompanio 900T debuted on Thursday, September 9th.
The MediaTek Kompanio 900T is a mid-range chip designed specifically for tablets and Chromebooks. It is made using TSMC’s 6nm process technology and consists of two high-performance Cortex-A78 cores, six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores and a Mali-G68 graphics accelerator. The chip is compatible with LPDDR5 RAM and built-in UFS 3.1 storage.
A huge advantage of the new MediaTek chip for tablets and Chromebooks is the availability of a 5G modem with support for SA and NSA operating modes. Also from wireless connections, it supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.
MediaTek Kompanio 900T can be installed in devices with displays with resolutions up to 2K and refresh rates up to 120 Hz. It is also compatible with single cameras up to 108 megapixels and dual cameras up to 20 megapixels with 4K video recording support. All this makes the new chip ideal for many low-cost Android tablets that will hit the market over the coming year.
MediaTek promises that the first devices based on Kompanio 900T will hit the market soon. But the chip maker did not name specific models and release dates.
