MediaTek with ray tracing: introduced Dimensity 8200 for smartphones and tablets

MediaTek has announced its new sub-flagship chipset for mobile devices. This is the Dimensity 8200 for premium smartphones and tablets, which has received quite interesting characteristics.

The Dimensity 8200 is built on a state-of-the-art 4nm process and is the first MediaTek chip to have a single large core as part of the CPU. Its role is played by the Cortex-A78 core clocked at 3.1 GHz. The CPU also includes three more Cortex-A78 cores with a clock frequency of 3 GHz, which provide the chip with high performance, and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores, the clock speed of which is limited to 2 GHz. The graphics accelerator Mali-G610 MC6 is responsible for graphics processing. Also, the new top-end MediaTek platform boasts support for HyperEngine 6.0 gaming technology with ray tracing, increased FPS in games and intelligent resource optimization depending on the task being performed. From wireless connections, the chipset supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

In terms of hardware compatibility, MediaTek’s Dimensity 8200 supports LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 built-in storage, up to Full HD+ at 180Hz and up to QHD+ at up to 120Hz. The chipset is also compatible with 320MP cameras capable of shooting 4K video at up to 60fps with HDR10+.

The first smartphone based on the Dimensity 8200 platform was the iQOO Neo7 SE introduced in China. Xiaomi also shared plans to release a smartphone on the new MediaTek chipset. She should soon present to the public the Redmi K60E, which will be based on the Dimensity 8200.
