In this Monday’s (8) edition of the Medical Correspondent panel, of Novo Dia, neurosurgeon Fernando Gomes explained why the death of an idol has such an impact on people.
The death of singer Marília Mendonça in a plane crash moved fans and even people who didn’t know much about her work. Many tributes were made by the general public, friends, athletes, politicians and other characters from the artistic world. On the weekend, a crowd accompanied her wake in Goiânia.
Fernando Gomes said that the impact of the artist’s own work on people’s daily lives justifies the great commotion that her death can cause even among those who were not a big fan of the singer.
“Music can provoke incredible emotions in the brain and, in fact, there is a signature [do trabalho de Marília Mendonça] in the brain tissue of millions of Brazilians. When suddenly the news comes that that job has ceased to exist because the person has died, there is a great emotional upsurge”, said the doctor.
For the brain, the death of a personality as famous as the sertaneja is the same as if a very close loved one had died, said Gomes.
“That’s when we end up getting a sense of the brevity of life, which is a breath, and the importance of externalizing our feelings, telling people that we love them, doing what we love most, and so on,” he said.
