It doesn't change for this year, but 2024 could be the last of the entrance tests for medical school. The Select Committee of the Senate Education Committee adopted the basic text for change the access system to medical degree courses introducing free enrollment in the first semester of degree courses in medicine and surgery, dentistry and veterinary medicine.
Anyone who wants to study medicine will have to follow preparatory courses (according to the text, the legislator will be able to indicate them) in the first semester and take the relevant exams. To be admitted to the second semester you must have passed these exams with results that should be reported in a national ranking.
It remains a form of limited number because “the number of enrollments in the second semester” should be consistent with the need for doctors estimated by the National Health System. The number of places available must be “aligned” with that of specialty schools.
If you do not move on to the second semester, the university credits will remain in the first and will be valid for those who continue their studies in one of the degree courses in the “biomedical, healthcare, pharmaceutical and veterinary” area. All members must indicate a “second choice” within the area and will not have to pay double for the change of faculty.
The Government will have nine to twelve months to adopt the necessary legislative decrees. First, any changes will be made in the commission, then the rapporteur will present the text to the Chamber. For 2024 the dates of May 28th and July 30th remain for the Medicine test.
