For the horse loversbut also for those looking for a special idea for a different day, it is not to be missed: it is the Mediterranean Horse Fair – organized by the Sicilian Region with the technical support of Fieracavalli – which returns from 20 to 22 May in Catania in the sixteenth century of the Ambelia estatemanaged by the Istituto Incremento Ippico per la Sicilia which deals with the conservation, improvement and diffusion of Sicilian equine breeds, and on 28 and 29 MayatLa Favorita racecourse in Palermo which, for the occasion, reopens its doors after five years of closure.
«The Mediterranean Horse Fair this year is growing again and doubling – he says the councilor for Tourism, Sport and Entertainment of the Sicilian Region Manlio Messina – confirming itself as one of the most important events in the equestrian world of Southern Italy. In addition to the splendid Ambelia facility, we also return to the public that of the Favorita in Palermo, creating an axis between these two structures of international significance for the practice of equestrian disciplines. Furthermore, competitions and shows return to take place in the spring after two years marked by the limitations due to Covid and we are ready to welcome once again thousands of athletes and enthusiasts, also enhancing the typical Sicilian products ».
The program
The horses, of course, will be the absolute protagonists, with a busy program of sports competitions ranging from show jumping to endurance, passing through western races and pony games. But, in addition to the competitions, there will also be more: conferences, appointments dedicated to biodiversity, breeding reviews with wonderful breeds. Examples? The Oriental Thoroughbred, the Sicilian Saddle Horse, the Sanfratellano Horse, the Ragusano and Pantesco donkeys and, among others, two guests of honor: the Pure Spanish Breed Horse in Ambelia and the Arabian Thoroughbred at La Favorita racecourse.
There is also space for shows – such as equestrian theater Emotions of a landwith the participation of the Spanish Association, Cordoba Ecuestre – and all this accompanied by the sensationalists typical Sicilian products. Yes, children will have a lot of fun: they can also experience the thrill of baptism on a pony, do educational workshops with donkeys and many other activities to discover the wonder of nature.
