Regular users of the social network TikTok have probably already come across the song “Messy” as the soundtrack to one post or another in your profile feed this month. The newest hit is from the English singer and songwriter Lola Young 23.
The song was released in June this year and makes up the artist’s second album, titled “This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway” . The song, which talks about self-discovery and frustrations about it, became popular through TikTok at the end of November this year, after the model Sofia Richie youngest daughter of the musician Lionel Richie, appeared dancing to the track in a video published on the social network.
Since then, the track has grown on streaming platforms. This week, the track reached position 64 on the Billboard Hot 100, the main music chart. In Spotify’s most listened to songs of the week, Young’s hit is in 87th position. According to data from the platform, “Messy” has accumulated more than 50 consecutive days appearing on the viral chart.
Who is Lola Young
Lola Young started composing when she was just 11 years old. His first project, the “Intro” was released in 2019. In 2021 the singer even received a nomination for the category Rising Star (rising star, translated into Portuguese) at the BRIT Awards. The debut album, “My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely” arrived in 2023, and was soon followed by “This Wasn’t Meant for You Anyway” the following year.
In a recent interview with Vogue magazine, Lola Young commented on the success of “Messy” and said she was not surprised to see the track go viral. “It’s an incredible feeling. It doesn’t feel surreal, actually, because I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”
For the vehicle, the artist also commented on the partnership with Tyler, The Creator. Young features on the track “Like Kim” from the album “Chromakopia” released by the musician in October this year.
“He sent me a message and I freaked out like hell. I was in L.A. and this was before ‘Messy’ and whatever. My album hadn’t even come out and I almost shit my pants so I texted him back. So we had a conversation about sandwiches, and he said, you should come to Los Angeles. Eventually I went to the studio. He is truly a living genius,” she commented.
Like “Messy”, the song also became a “trend” on TikTok.
