Meet the Brazilian designer who conquered Harry Styles and the world

If you’re a fan of the fashion world or of Harry Styles (who, by the way, has a birthday this Wednesday, the 1st), chances are you’ve heard of Marco Ribeiro.

Ribeiro is a Brazilian stylist based in France, who gained notoriety with colorful pieces and the use of geometric shapes in his creations. These creations have already been used by big names in the pop universe, such as Harry Styles.

The harmony between them was so great that the Brazilian was the first name chosen by the singer to sign a partnership with the beauty and cosmetics brand. Pleasingwhich belongs to Harry Styles.

Together, they launched a collection that features several items, such as sweatshirts, nail polishes and makeup — all with names in Portuguese and formats that refer to Brazil (one of the nail polishes, for example, is called “Borgonha Açaí Cremoso”).

“Being Brazilian, I will always bring that DNA with me, because it’s part of it, you know? It’s my DNA”, explains Ribeiro.

And this Brazilian DNA is an inspiration for Marco Ribeiro, who last year launched the “Waves of Love” collection.

To transmit these waves, big names in national music kept him company during the creative process. “Tropicalism, bossa nova from the 1970s, Os Mutantes, Rita Lee, Gilberto Gil, Liniker, more contemporary, all that was what I was listening to at that moment”, says the stylist.

He is also aware of the social role he plays in representing a black, Latino and gay man in an industry as competitive as fashion. “It means a lot, you know? Being Brazilian, being black, being gay and representing many other things as well. (…) It’s a representation that I didn’t have when I was a kid. So that’s also a motivation to keep doing what I do.”
