Meet the Hello Kitty superfan who collects 10,000 toys

THE Hello Kitty turns 50 this month. Launched by the Japanese company Sanrio in 1974, the character has fans all over the world.

One admirer, however, surpasses herself. Asako Kanda, a resident of Tokyo, has collected more than 10 thousand items of Hello Kitty for the last 36 years.

Character is not a cat

In July 2024, Sanrio director Jill Cook revealed that Hello Kitty not a cat . The statement was given by the representative of the company that created the character in an interview with NBC’s Today Show.

“Is Hello Kitty a cat?” asked reporter Savannah Sellers. Cook, however, surprised by saying that Hello Kitty is a little british girl .

“She is, in fact, a little girl born and raised in suburban London. She has a mother and father, a twin sister, Mimmy, who is also her best friend. She likes to bake cookies and make new friends,” he said. Read more facts about the character.
