THE Hello Kitty turns 50 this month. Launched by the Japanese company Sanrio in 1974, the character has fans all over the world.
One admirer, however, surpasses herself. Asako Kanda, a resident of Tokyo, has collected more than 10 thousand items of Hello Kitty for the last 36 years.

In July 2024, Sanrio director Jill Cook revealed that Hello Kitty not a cat . The statement was given by the representative of the company that created the character in an interview with NBC’s Today Show.
“Is Hello Kitty a cat?” asked reporter Savannah Sellers. Cook, however, surprised by saying that Hello Kitty is a little british girl .
