Alexis Tsipras met with the Prime Minister of Finland Sana Marin.
According to a SYRIZA statement, the two discussed the war in Ukraine, the EU response, Finland’s defense concerns and the prospect of joining NATO, as well as Turkish aggression.
The President of SYRIZA-PS stressed the importance of the support of the Ukrainian people against the Russian invasion – which blatantly violates international law – and the continuation of strong and targeted sanctions. He also stressed the need to upgrade the EU’s geopolitical role and promote a European initiative to end Russian military operations with a return to diplomacy and peace. Mr Tsipras added that the current geopolitical and energy crisis calls for a new European energy policy and a bold revision of the Stability Pact, which must be supported by surplus Member States. He also stressed the importance of the condemnation of Turkish aggression by our European partners, both within the EU and NATO.
Mr Tsipras also emphasized the importance of co-operation between the European Progressive Forces and briefed them on the Finnish government’s co-operation policy.
