Meeting at Planalto on fuel ends without definition, sources say

The meeting at Palácio do Planalto on Tuesday afternoon to discuss solutions for fuel prices ended up inconclusive, they told CNN government sources.

The ministers of Economy, Paulo Guedes, of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira, and the president of Petrobras, Joaquim Silva e Luna, participated in the meeting.

According to a government source, all possibilities have been discussed.

From the adoption of a new war budget that frees up fiscal space to subsidize fuel prices to the use of dividends from Petrobras shareholders to fund the price reduction. But no thesis prevailed.

A source close to the ministers said that, while the hypotheses are being discussed, the government should support PLP 11, which should be considered this week in the Senate. The same source also said that there is no “crazy” under discussion.

The government will now deepen its studies on each of the possibilities, paying attention to the evolution of the Ukrainian war, which is currently considered the most worrying variable due to the inability of the government to act on it and the high potential impact it has on fuel prices. .
