Meeting of K. Sakellaropoulou with people with visual disabilities

The President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, received five people with visual disabilities, three of whom use a white cane and two a guide dog.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of Social Solidarity and the Fight against Poverty, George Stamatis.

Immediately afterwards, the President of the Republic stated:

“Today, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I welcomed our fellow citizens with visual disabilities and talked to them.

They described to me the difficulties they face daily in trying to move around the city, the low number of mobility, orientation and skills trainers, and the reefs they encounter in accessing public or private facilities and services or on public transport when accompanied by a guide dog blind.

Our main concern is to free their daily lives from the obstacles that make it difficult. To fight the stereotypes, the prejudices, the exclusion, the discrimination that exist. And this concerns all our fellow human beings with disabilities.

Only then will our society prove inclusive and in solidarity with all its members. ”
