Meeting of Kostis Hatzidakis with the General Director of Employment of the Commission

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, had a meeting today with the Director General of Employment and Social Affairs of the European Commission, Joost Koorte. At the center of the discussion were the latest developments regarding the coronavirus pandemic, but also the major changes taking place in the labor market in the context of the green transition and the digital transformation.

Mr. Hatzidakis referred to the reform work of the Ministry focusing on the need to adopt a European approach in all areas. Among other things, he described the new framework for teleworking, which is one of the most progressive in Europe and the planned reforms in the field of training, with the aim of utilizing – and not just absorbing – the funds from the new NSRF and the Recovery Fund for benefit of the employed and the unemployed.

For his part, Mr. Korte described the legislative and other initiatives of the European Commission in the field of employment, while praising Greece’s performance in the fight against unemployment.

It has been a common finding that addressing the major current challenges in the labor market makes it even more imperative to work together at European level to design policies that respond to social, economic and technological developments for the benefit of workers and the unemployed.
