Meeting of M. Varvitsiotis with the Chinese ambassador

The war in Ukraine and its effects on the economic, energy and food sectors, the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and the further development of bilateral economic relations were the focus of Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis’s meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Greece Sh.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Foreign Minister, both sides agreed that the war should end immediately, while also discussing the sanctions imposed on Russia and security challenges for the wider region.

Regarding the bilateral relations, Mr. Varvitsiotis pointed out the high level of trade and economic relations in general between the two countries, noting that there is room for their further deepening. Particular reference, as announced in the same announcement, was made to the prospects of Chinese investments in our country, the increase of Greek exports, but also the transformation of Greece into an energy and transit hub thanks to its infrastructure and geostrategic position.

The deputy minister also briefed the Chinese ambassador on the escalation of tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean, noting the escalation of aggression and Turkey’s revisionism.

Finally, it is emphasized that the meeting confirmed the high level of cultural relations between Greece and China over time.
