The Minister of National Defense, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, received today, Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at the “PAPAGOU” Camp, the Minister of Defense of Albania, Mr. Niko Peleshi, in the context of his official visit to Athens.
Present at the welcoming ceremony were the Deputy Minister of National Defense Mr. Nikolaos Hardalias, the Chief of General Staff General Konstantinos Floros, the Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Charalambos Lalousis, the Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Stylianos Petrakis and General Stylianos Petralis
During the talks, which took place in a cordial atmosphere in the “Ioannis Kapodistrias” Conference Room, the importance that the two countries attach to the further strengthening and strengthening of their defense cooperation was underlined, both for the mutual benefit of their Armed Forces and for the security and stability in the wider region.
The Minister of National Defense stressed that the European perspective of the Western Balkans is a one-way street for their stability and prosperity. Greece has long supported Albania’s European course and the immediate start of the accession negotiations between Albania and Northern Macedonia, and their accession to the EU, provided the necessary conditions are met.
Developments in Ukraine and the security situation in the Eastern Mediterranean were also discussed, and it was stressed that the two countries condemn the revision and the flagrant violation of international law and provide all possible humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine.
Mr. Panagiotopoulos underlined the importance that the Greek side attaches to the implementation of the Transnational Agreement on Military Cemeteries, as a humanitarian and moral debt to the Greek Fallen in the Greek-Italian War of 1940.
The Albanian Minister invited his Greek counterpart to pay an official visit to Albania next autumn.
