The Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Notis Mitarakis, had a meeting with the Minister of Interior of France, Geral Darmanen, in Paris.
According to a relevant announcement of the Greek Ministry, the meeting took place at the invitation of Mr. Darmanen, in the context of the assumption of the EU presidency by France in the current six months.
The talks focused on immigration management, border protection and the negotiation of the European Immigration and Asylum Pact.
After the talks, Mr. Mitarakis thanked the French Minister “for the impetus he gives to the discussion on the new Immigration and Asylum Pact”.
“Greece has two specific goals. First, we want actions that will reduce the flows in the EU and second, a dynamism of solidarity, which will come to support the first host countries. We are waiting for the proposals of the French Presidency”, Mr. Mitarakis pointed out.
He added: “What we said today in Paris is that the new Pact must never again put pressure on our islands and borders again. “The relocation of refugees and migrants. The relocation with the new Pact must be very fast.”
