The President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou received today at the Presidential Palace the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulidis and expressed his warm congratulations to him on his re-assumption of duties.
Ms. Sakellaropoulou stressed that the previous experience of Mr. Kasoulidis in this position is a guarantee for the defense of the interests of the Cypriot Hellenism and the Republic of Cyprus, in a particularly difficult situation.
The President of the Republic stressed that Turkey’s insistence on the unacceptable demands for a two-state solution and their “equal sovereignty”, as well as the continuing Turkish aggression in Varos, in the maritime zones of the Republic of Cyprus and in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, will not bend our commitment to the success of the efforts for the resumption of the negotiations for the total settlement of the Cyprus problem, on the basis of the relevant Resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
For his part, Mr. Kasoulides expressed the gratitude of the Cypriot people to the Greek, said that this coexistence is the main support of the Cypriot struggle and stressed that the transformation of the Republic of Cyprus into a functioning Bi-Zonal Bicommunal Federation, with a sovereign An international personality and a nationality, as provided for in the decisions of the United Nations Security Council, is a permanent compass of Cyprus.
