The President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou met with undergraduate and postgraduate students from Ukraine studying at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which has undertaken to cover their expenses for food, accommodation and daily necessities, due to the war in their country.
The President of the Republic talked to them about the sufferings of their homeland from this “unprovoked war” and listened to their fears and anxieties about the fate of their loved ones who are there.
Ms. Sakellaropoulou expressed her solidarity with the students, noting that “the Ukrainian people, a people in Europe, have suddenly become refugees” and added that “we must all be ready for the next day in order to build what was lost”.
Finally, Mrs. Sakellaropoulou, referring to the decision of AUTh. to cover the expenses of the Ukrainian students and to help them in their practical problems, for as long as the war lasts, stressed that it confirms the will of the Greek State “to stand by them, in their struggle for education and advancement, in its most difficult period of their lives “.
Earlier, the President of the Republic visited the City Hall of Thessaloniki, where the collection of basic necessities for Ukraine is carried out by volunteers in a special area.
It is noted that Mrs. Sakellaropoulou contacted the Consul General of Greece in Mariupol Manolis Androulakis, who is expected to return to Greece tomorrow, and congratulated him for the high sense of duty and the conscientiousness he showed, in his effort to help the Greek .
