Mr. David Howden, founder and CEO of Howden Group, the leading international insurance company, and Mr. Dimitris Tsesmetzoglou, met with Mr. Grigoris Dimitriadis, General Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on 25.05.2022 at the Maximos Palace. .
The meeting took place in the context of David Howden’s visit to Greece, on the occasion of the official renaming of the Greek subsidiary of the Group to Howden Greece, but also the further expansion of the investment strategy in our country, which from 2018 is at the center of development Howden policy.
Both Mr. David Howden and Mr. Dimitris Tsesmetzoglou informed Mr. Grigoris Dimitriadis about the 4 important acquisitions that have already been completed in Greece and confirmed the intention of the Group to continue investing dynamically in our country.
During the meeting, the possibilities of the Greek, but also of the international insurance community were discussed, always in cooperation with the governments, to contribute to the financial relief of citizens and companies from the effects of natural disasters. In particular, David Howden also referred to Howden’s initiatives on the controversial issue of climate change.
The Group is actively involved in the global dialogue and in the context of the 26th Climate Summit (2021), Howden in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross issued the world’s first parametric bond, which will finance the restoration of volcanic eruptions.
This is an innovative initiative, which -through advanced blockchain technology models-, ensures the optimal management and allocation of resources for the relief of the victims and the restoration of the conditions for sustainable development.
Afterwards, Messrs. David Howden and Dimitris Tsesmetzoglou met with the Governor of the Bank of Greece, Mr. Ioannis Stournaras. During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the “wave” of acquisitions and mergers that is observed, not only in Greece, but also in the international insurance markets, a trend that is constantly expanding and intensifying in insurance intermediation companies. The BoG Commander and his interlocutors had the opportunity to discuss the international economic and humanitarian implications of the war in Ukraine, as well as the individual consequences for the insurance industry.
