The Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, met with the Presidency of the Greek-French Friendship Group of the French Senate, consisting of President Didier Marie and Vice-Presidents Françoise Dumont and Laurence Harribey. The meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Tourism, focused on the great potential that exists for the further strengthening of the strong tourist current from France, as emphasized in a relevant announcement.
The French side praised the measures taken by Greece to deal with the pandemic, which contributed to making the country a safe destination for the French who visited it in the last two years. Mr. Kikilias assured the French senators that Greece will move inexorably on the same wavelength in 2022.
Both sides agreed on the importance of Greek tourism for the extension of the tourist season, which is accompanied by infrastructure projects and strategic options that effectively address the current challenges. In this context, the Minister of Tourism characterized the resources of the Recovery and Resilience Fund as a great opportunity for strong and modern infrastructure, which will strengthen the ability of Greece to receive more and more quality visitors.
Mr. Kikilias also developed the planning of the Ministry of Tourism for thematic Tourism, city break, cruise, winter Tourism and the emergence of alternative destinations, with the French side emphasizing its full support for Greek actions and initiatives.
Finally, the Minister of Tourism informed about the strategic decision of the Greek Government and the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the transformation of Greece into a model country of sustainable tourism development.
