Meeting V. Kikilia-K. Karamanli on the Ukrainian crisis and the preparation of the tourist season

The Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias and the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Costas Karamanlis made a first assessment of the effects of the Ukrainian crisis in their areas of responsibility, during a working meeting held at the Ministry of Tourism.

In their statements after the meeting, Messrs. Kikilias and Karamanlis also referred to the close cooperation of the two Ministries for the thorough preparation of the upcoming tourist season.

The following are the statements of the two Ministers:

V. KIKILIAS: First of all, I would like to thank my colleague and friend, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Costas Karamanlis, for his visit today to the Ministry of Tourism and for our cooperation, which is at the best possible level.

We made a first assessment of the crisis that has arisen after the dramatic developments in Ukraine and how it affects our areas of responsibility.

We work together for the preparation, which takes place during the winter months, for the maximum possible achievement of our goals in what has to do with the tourism product, which is the locomotive of the Greek economy and of course goes through the air and road connections. .

Mr. Minister, thank you very much for the cooperation, both for the difficult period we are going through now, and for the auspicious one that follows in the coming months, in what has to do with the revenues from Greek Tourism that will reach the Greek society. and in the Greek family.

K. KARAMANLIS: I would also like to thank my good friend, the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias for the good cooperation we had today.

The reason for the visit here, to the Ministry of Tourism, is twofold.

First, we need to make a quick assessment of the Ukrainian crisis and how it affects the country’s tourism product and aviation. We have agreed that we will be in constant contact, to deal with any problems that may arise.

And secondly, because prevention is better than cure, we must be ready for the tourist season.

As the Minister of Tourism rightly said, 85% of our visitors use air transport. It is very important that our airports and our entire air navigation system are ready to accept, we want to hope, a record year for Greek Tourism.

We, as the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority, must be ready to deal with any issues that arise in a summer period that we want to believe will really be a very good season for Greek Tourism and the Greek Economy.

This meeting does not end here. We will have constant contact between the two Ministries, in order to solve problems that may arise.
