Mega-operation in communities should be expanded throughout RJ

The joint mega-operation between the Civil and Military Police of Rio de Janeiro, which has been taking place since yesterday (15) in 10 communities in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, is set to be expanded.

In a press conference held on Tuesday morning (16), Rio de Janeiro’s Secretary of Public Security, Victor Santos, stated that the action is scalable and that “the goal is to expand to the entire state”. Among the regions mentioned is Costa Verde, in the south of the state.

“This action aims to obtain knowledge from the communities. We know that crime and the dispute over territory are no longer just about drug sales, but also about services. The drug-consuming public is small, unlike these services that are for the entire population,” said Santos.

So far, 31 people have been arrested by Rio de Janeiro security forces in the communities targeted by the action.

On this second day of the Ordo Action, as it was named by the authorities, the objective of the agents, according to Victor Santos, is to restore electricity, gas, water, telephone and internet services to the population of the West Zone and collect intelligence data to combat organized crime in the region.
