Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, no balcony for them at the coronation of Charles III

Three months after the coronation of king Charles III there is an increasingly persistent demand among the royal watcher and curious royal families: “The prince Harry And Meghan Markle will they be invited?”. On the one hand, one would have to answer with a resounding “no”. Too heavy the climate that has arisen after the publication of Spare, Harry’s memoir, not to mention that their presence in Westminster could divert attention from the protagonist of the day and fuel other unpleasant gossip.

Buckingham Palace’s strategy, however, could go in a completely different direction. According to some rumors made public by The Sun, the king would have decided to invite his second son and his wife, under certain conditions, of course. The Dukes of Sussex should be on the guest list, around 2,000 people. “There are no indications that the couple will be excluded from the three days of events”, an insider told the tabloid, and their presence should also be certain in Westminster, together with other members of the aristocracy, British and otherwise. In all this, of course, there is a «but». To Harry and Meghan, who are no more senior royals, i.e. no longer actively working for Windsor House, one of the most anticipated times of the day should be precluded, Charles’ first appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace as the new king.

A formula already tested in the past. On the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, for example, theaccess to the balcony was allowed only to a small number of people: in addition to the sovereign, son Charles with his wife Camilla, daughter Anna with her husband Timothy Lawrence, William and Kate with their three children, Prince Edward with his wife Sophie and children Louise and James and the Duke of Kent. A much leaner royal family than in the past, already in line with Charles’ idea of the monarchy. As other European rulers, from Carl Gustav of Sweden to Marghrethe II of Denmark have also shown, the only way for certain institutions to survive in modern times is their change. Harry and Meghan are no longer operating as royalby their choice, so they will not have the privilege of being next to the king on his most important day.

If the rumors are confirmed by the facts, we will be faced with the most subtle and unexpected response to the accusations of Shoot. The book, after the clamor of the first hour, has already inevitably gone into the background. The monarchy, however, is always on the crest of the wave. And she prepares to celebrate herself in style.
