With the increase in the minimum wage to R$1,212, in 2022, the monthly contributions of individual microentrepreneurs (MEI) will also be readjusted. As of February 2022, the amount referring to the INSS of the MEI Simplified Collection Document (DAS-MEI) will be BRL 60.60, which corresponds to 5% of the minimum wage.
MEI that carry out activities related to Commerce and Industry pay R$ 1 more referring to ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) and those related to Services, R$ 5 referring to ISS (Tax on Services).
The readjustment is only valid for tickets that will expire from February 20th. The amount to be paid until January 20th remains R$55.
The manager of public policies at Sebrae, Silas Santiago, points out that the 10.18% increase in the contribution is due to the monthly tax paid by the MEI is linked to the minimum wage and that, therefore, the readjustment occurs every year. . “Even with the increase in the monthly contribution, being formalized and having taxes on time is a great benefit for individual micro-entrepreneurs”, he emphasizes.
Currently, there are about 13 million MEI in Brazil. Through the contribution, individual micro-entrepreneurs have social security rights, such as old-age pension, sick pay, maternity allowance, imprisonment benefit and pension for death.
In addition, upon becoming MEI, those who opted now have a CNPJ, issue invoices, have access to credit lines and financing with special conditions. Those who do not pay on time may lose their right to social security benefits, such as retirement and maternity leave, and have their CNPJ canceled by the Internal Revenue Service.
Payment DAS
The monthly billet of the MEI Simplified Collection Document (DAS-MEI) expires on the 20th of the month and can be generated on the Entrepreneur’s Portal.
For the DAS-MEI monthly payment, individual micro-entrepreneurs can also opt for automatic debit and, for that, simply access the Entrepreneur Portal and click on the Automatic Debit request banner. The MEI that makes this option must have a checking account in one of the partner banks.
The MEI Simplified Collection Document is the instrument for monthly payment of tax obligations of the Individual Microentrepreneur. DAS has a fixed cost, which varies according to the sector in which the entrepreneur operates.
The monthly amount is 5% of the minimum wage, referring to social security contributions, and BRL 5 of ISS for the Municipality, if the activity is a service, or BRL 1 of ICMS for the State, if it is commerce or industry.
