Méliuz launches financial services app that includes bitcoin investment

Cashback technology company Méliuz announced on Monday the launch of an application that integrates shopping functions with financial services that include digital account and investment in bitcoins.

The company said that the new application is already available to part of its users and that it will be accessible to the rest of its base “progressively over the next few weeks”, according to a statement to the market.

The integration of financial services with mall resources puts the company in competition with a number of fintechs and large financial institutions in the country, such as Inter and Itaú Unibanco.

The company’s shares ended the day up 2.8%, quoted at 2.91 reais. The Ibovespa closed with an appreciation of 0.2%.

The company said without giving details that the new app allows financial operations such as PIX, buying and selling bitcoins and receiving “cryptoback, that is, receiving money back in bitcoin”. The cryptocurrency cashback function will be activated “soon,” according to the company.

Méliuz announced last week that it had a 77% growth in gross sales in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year and ended the year with 22.4 million accounts, an increase of 1.6 million in relation to September. The number of active users was 9.4 million.

The company is still working on the development of other products that include account income, salary portability and “more possibilities for using cashback”.
