Meloni: I am ashamed that we are being discussed because my countrymen did not pay in an Albanian restaurant

THE Georgia Meloni gave her own answer regarding the news that has been circulating for the last few days and which she wanted to have paid the bill of her compatriots in Albania who left a restaurant without paying.

The Italian prime minister was vacationing in Albania as a guest of Edi Rama when she accidentally learned of the incident and rushed to tell the Italian ambassador to Albania to go and pay the benefit.

Today Giorgia Meloni said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that she feels “ashamed that we are being discussed abroad for these things and that’s why I asked the Italian ambassador to settle the account”, stressing that she herself did “nothing great” .

Georgia Meloni’s post

While in Albania, Prime Minister Rama told me the story of 4 Italians who left a local restaurant without paying the bill. The restaurateur, after the images of the escape had gone viral, said he was still happy because our compatriots ate well and were happy.

I was embarrassed, because the Italy I want to represent is not a nation that is talked about abroad for these things, that does not respect other people’s work, that thinks it is funny to deceive others. So I decided to ask the ambassador to go and settle the bill, which I paid myself. I didn’t do anything greatactually I didn’t even mention it.

However, even this created a backlash in Italy, from an opposition that apparently prefers another image of Italy. I’m sorry because I was hoping that at least on something so trivial we could all agree on».
