Meloni: The first visit to Brussels – “We are not aliens, but people presenting positions”

THE Georgia Meloni visited for the first time Brussels as its prime minister Italy and held a series of meetings, including with European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Metzola and Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni.

“We are not aliens, but people presenting their positions,” said Georgia Meloni, while it is worth noting that there was no joint press conference with European officials.

“Thank you Georgia Meloni for the powerful message your visit to the European institutions sends on your first trip abroad. It was a good opportunity to exchange views on critical issues ranging from support to Ukraine, energy to Italy’s NextGenEU and immigration,” the Commission president said in a tweet after her meeting with the Italian prime minister, who it took about 50 minutes.

Also, regarding the meeting with the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, it was “good and constructive” as noted by a representative of the EP. The meeting between Metsola and Meloni in the office of the president of the EP lasted about 20 minutes and was followed by the official meeting which lasted about 45 minutes. On the table were the Russian invasion of Ukraine, high energy prices and inflation. Also, Roberta Metzola invited the Italian Prime Minister to address the EP plenary.
