Memorandum of cooperation on gas issues signed by K. Skrekas with his Egyptian counterpart

Particularly important for Greece and Egypt is the memorandum of cooperation on natural gas issues signed today in Cairo by the Minister of Energy and Environment Costas Skrekas with the Egyptian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla.

“The memorandum we co-signed gives us the opportunity to expand our cooperation in areas related to the transportation of natural gas from Egypt to Greece by ships, liquefied natural gas, or the construction of a submarine gas pipeline and also exchange of know-how. “cooperation in matters of exploration and extraction of natural gas”, stressed Mr. Skrekas, immediately after the signing of the memorandum, which took place after the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the countries participating in the SE Mediterranean Forum for Natural Gas, in the Egyptian capital.

As Mr. Skrekas stated, “this new memorandum of cooperation with Egypt takes place following the meeting that the President of Egypt Al Sisi had with the Prime Minister of the country Kyriakos Mitsotakis”, and through it “we have the opportunity to discuss and move forward to deepen Greece’s strategic relationship with Egypt and in the field of cooperation for natural gas “.

“We think that this agreement will enable both countries to further develop their economic relations, and in this way to help the two economies, the two societies, the two countries to become more resilient, more competitive. “in the face of the effects of the climate crisis and of course to ensure a better life for our citizens”, concluded the Greek Minister of Energy and Environment.

For his part, the Egyptian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources described the meeting with his Greek counterpart as “very important”. As Tarek El Molla stated, “this memorandum of cooperation marks many areas of cooperation in natural gas, in the context of our bilateral cooperation under the guidance of the leaders of our two countries and our peoples and in parallel with the East Med Gas Forum, a fact which shows that there is a huge potential for future cooperation and with many new programs that can be realized through the operation of the Forum “.
