Memorial Brumadinho: Know tribute to the victims of the dam break

Signing from the Gustavo Penna Architectural Architecture Office Associados Architects (GPAA), the venue space has been open to the public since January this year and has free admission.

The idea of Memorial Brumadinho, according to the architect responsible for the project, was born from the mobilization of the families of the victims, who developed the memorial in partnership with the office

Through reflection and learning, the purpose of space is to preserve the stories and resignify the place of tragedy. “It is a memorial to be known and visited as a gesture of overcoming,” architect Gustavo Penna told CNN Viagem & Gastronomy .

With 1,220 square meters, the Brumadinho Memorial was built under the management of the Brumadinho Memorial Foundation and houses different spaces dedicated to the victims, such as a twisted and fragmented area, which represents the impact of the breakup.

Soon after, it is possible to observe a crystal drain a monument that refers to the way the victims of the victims refer to them: “jewelry.” On each anniversary of the disaster, at 12:28 pm on January 25, a beam of light illuminates the stones, “symbolizing the darkness that marked that tragic moment.”

The space has a spotted slit on the side walls, with the names of the victims recorded in them. With a limited view of the distant horizon, this section of the route, which extends 230 meters, aims to induce introspection and reflection on human fragility in the face of tragedies.

“It is not a construction placed in one place: the memorial is a territory, where it has the Central Reception Block. Then it extends through the slit that points to the place of the break, ”explained Penna.

At the end of the slit, visitors find the spaces Memory and Testimony who honor the victims through photos and personal effects. The area is the creation of the scenograph Julia Peregrino .

In addition, Memorial Brumadinho has a lookout and a woods, where the mud passed. At the site, 272 yellow ipês were planted – one for each victim. “It’s a park for a walk, but also a memory territory,” concluded the architect.
