Men are arrested after breaking into a daycare center to steal electrical wiring; look

Two men were arrested after breaking into, in the early hours of last Wednesday (15), a daycare center located in Vila Fazzeoni, in the south zone of São Paulo, to steal electricity wires.

Cameras from the Smart Sampa program, run by São Paulo City Hall, caught the action at the Elfrida Zukowski Early Childhood Education Center (CEI).

The monitoring cameras issued an alert, and project operators called a Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) vehicle that patrolled the region, providing real-time information about the invasion. See the images below:

Upon noticing the approach of the GCM, the invaders tried to escape by climbing the wall of the daycare center, but were captured by agents at the institution’s door.

The men were charged with theft and damage to public property and taken to the 47th Police District, in Capão Redondo, where they remained at the disposal of the Court.

Sampa Smart Cameras

According to the City of São Paulo, Smart Sampa is an intelligent camera system that has around 23 thousand monitoring cameras installed at strategic points in São Paulo, including entrances and exits to the city.

The system offers features such as license plate reading, facial recognition and intrusion alerts, allowing a quick response to inhibit threats to security and public property.

The tool is also integrated with other public service bodies, such as SAMU, CET and Military and Civil police.

In six months, the system has already helped to recapture 429 fugitives convicted of various crimes, including murders, rapes, robberies and even members of criminal factions. In addition, 1,644 people were arrested for crimes such as theft, breaking into schools, illegal possession of weapons and drug trafficking.

In the first two weeks of 2025, Smart Sampa identified 115 fugitive criminals and contributed to the arrest in the act of another 180, resulting in an average of 20 arrests per day.

The program also plays an important role in locating missing people, with 30 cases solved since its implementation, including two this year alone.
