Two men were arrested accused of breaking into a stadium and stealing donations that were going to Rio Grande do Sul on Saturday afternoon (18) in Praia Grande, south coast of São Paulo. According to the city hall, security cameras captured the action in time for the GCM (Municipal Civil Guard) to be deployed, who detained the individuals before escaping.
The crime took place at Ginásio Falcão, located in Bairro Mirim. The place was being used as a donation collection point for the population of Rio Grande do Sul, which is suffering from the effects of the historic floods that hit the state.
According to Praia Grande city hall, the suspects tried to escape, but ended up being detained near the gym. The men told police they had stolen two bags of food. In the location indicated by them, three basic food baskets were found, a box of milk with 12 units, a box of chocolate milk with 27 units and a package of rice.
In the gym, a backpack with pliers, two scissors and a knife used for the invasion was found. The suspects left behind broken padlocks and products scattered around the scene.
