Menendez family rejects “Monsters”: “Ryan Murphy never contacted us”

The hit Netflix series “Monsters: Menendez Brothers: Parent Killers “, has just won over more critics: the Menendez family itself . After complaints from Erik Menendez who is portrayed in the production, other members of the clan also spoke out against the series.

Last Thursday (26), 24 members of the Menendez family signed a joint statement on social media. In it, the brothers’ families state that, after more than three decades in prison they “know them, love them and want them to come home “. The statements were posted on X and reproduced by The Hollywood Reporter.

“’Monsters: Menendez Brothers: Parent Killers’ is a serial, phobic, grotesque and anachronistic nightmare that is not only filled with absolute untruths and falsehoods […] The character assassination of Erik and Lyle, who are our nephews and cousins, under the justification of a ‘storytelling narrative’ is repulsive,” the joint statement reads.

The family also claims that they felt “victims” of the production of Ryan Murphy : “Murphy claims he spent years researching the case, but ultimately relied on material from Dominick Dunne to justify his defamation against us and never contacted us” stated the family.

“We know these men. We grew up with them since they were boys . We loved them and, to this day, we are close to them. We also know what happened in their home and the incredibly turbulent lives they endured . Several of us were witnesses to many atrocities that no one should have to witness.”

The statement was released by Tammi Menendez wife of Erik Menendez. Despite being incarcerated, Erik also published a statement criticizing the production : “It is with a heavy heart that I say that I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be so naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives that he would do this without ill intent.”

Regarding Erik’s criticism, Murphy countered : “The question that I find interesting, and that [Erik] does not mention in its statement, is that, when watching the program, It is possible to notice that around 60 to 65 percent of the content both in the scripts and in the form of presentation, focuses on the abuse and the allegations they made about what they experienced “.

He continued: “If you watch the series, You will notice that it presents the opinions and theories of many people who were involved in the case . Dominick Dunne has written several articles addressing this theory. We’re showing your point of view, as well as Leslie Abramson’s. It was our responsibility to present all of these perspectives, and we did so.”
