Menendez’s new message to Turkey: Ankara will suffer the consequences if it attacks Greece

After the filing of the amendment, which puts a “brake” on the sale of F-16 fighters and upgrade packages to Turkeyunless specific conditions are met, such as not being used for overflights over Greece, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez sent another clear message to Erdogan’s Turkey.

Speaking at an expatriate event in New Jersey, Mr. Menendez told Ankara that he would suffer the consequences if he took any action against Greece.

“We must be vigilant that threats will not be carried out. However, I consider that at the moment it is more ‘bragging’ than anything else,” said Robert Menendez, speaking to ANT1, a few hours after the amendment was filed in the Senate.

“The message is solidarity with the Greeks and Cypriots. Appreciation for their amazing contribution to our country and how incredible allies they are for the US, through NATO and the EU,” he emphasized.

He added: “As well as that they have our support, at the end of the day, and that our relationship is deepening. I consider that we are at the highest point of Greece’s relations with the USA”.
