Men’s haircut trends: from the crew cut, to the Italian cut, what goes in the spring

«The trends for men’s haircuts usually start from fashion shows, TV, music and propose styles that do not always coincide with what men really ask when they go to the barber». To reveal the mismatch is Emanuele Giannini, Bullfrog Marketing Manager which offers us an excursus on the latest trends for men.

“The style that is popular this year looks to the past, among the cuts that have been brought to the fore there is the loved and hated mullet from the 70s, the cut with a pronounced length at the back of the head, usually accompanied by a shaved face or a very short beard.

But in real life, with habits changed by the pandemic, the demands are different ».

It was to propose it Mahmood in Sanremo which showed up on stage with a very clean mini mullet, combined with shaded sides and its classic caesar cut on the front, a look that was taken care of directly by Michele Cisco of Bullfrog, who also opted for a 4mm beard shaded under the neck.

“Sometimes the mullet is also accompanied by one “mohawk” stile, that is a much greater length that runs from the top of the head to the neck in a sort of crest ”, Emanuele Giannini specified.

He offered an example of this combination Fasma, always the Sanremo with one of the most elaborate cuts, one skin fade laterale combined with a “Mohican”, that is a
much greater length that runs from the top of the head to the neck in a kind of crest. Glossy finish with natural / curly movement

But often in real life in a barbershop the requests are quite different and influenced mainly by the reduction in the frequency with which men visit their barber, either because it is closed as it is now, or perhaps because it is incompatible with the reduced movements of those who work in smart working.

«Generally men want longer cuts than usual, all worked in scissors and carried backwards like the Italian cut: those who are used to seeing themselves with longer hair tend to keep this style at least for a while. Conversely, those who prefer short cuts ask for easy-to-maintain versions like the crew cut, a one-length cut, with low shades that do not require very frequent visits to the barbershop (for example it is the cut of Fedez, which we curated for his latest video) », adds Emanuele Giannini.

“On the beard front, it is interesting to see how spending more time at home has given vent to the desire to experiment with different styles on their own: mustaches above all, but also shaves on those who have always had a beard or long beards on those who were otherwise used to shaving daily. In barbershop the style that is most requested of us is a beard of medium length, about 2cm, fuller in the central part and well shaded on the cheeks and under the chin. It is the most suitable style to wear under the mask.
