#mensbodypositivity: the time has come for men to accept themselves too

If there is an ideal of the body that has never changed in recent years, it is the male one. We women, after strenuous demands, have succeeded in imposing the conception that there are physicists of many types, different builds and stature and none of this is wrong. For men, however, this is not the case: the only accepted one is the thin and sculpted one. Circumstance, no less frustrating for them who find themselves confronted with an often unattainable ideal.

As some videos on TikTok – all collected under the hashtag #mensbodypositivity – show, many of the videos, photos we see are absolutely modified. Not only Photoshop or Facetune but also a shrewd combination of lights and poses that emphasize only the positive aspects, hiding the negative ones and obviously giving a distorted image.

One of the first to talk about how harmful and deleterious it was to refer to certain physical models was Zac Efron who, during an interview, told of having suffered a lot during the preparation of a film to achieve a physical form that was obviously not his and that training only serves to feel good and not to transform one’s body into something that, in long run, it is not sustainable.

The #mensbodypositivity tiktoks claim precisely this: accepting oneself for what one is and normalizing the fact that male bodies are also very different from each other and each has its own characteristics. Coming to this awareness can avoid more serious consequences such as dysmorphia or other mental health problems. As we know, actor Jonah Hill said he never took off his shirt in public until he was 30 because he was ashamed and suffered from the jokes that were continually made to him and, recently, he asked on Instagram not to comment on his body anymore. because it didn’t help him at all, on the contrary it made him suffer, causing him anxiety.

We women are experts in bearing the weight of physical models that are imposed on us by society and it is good that even men now understand and understand what that means. By becoming aware, situations change the time has come to look in the mirror and finally accept yourself for who you are!
