Mentorship Milan, Alessia Cappello: “A project to help women get involved”

“This project was born from the idea of wanting to try to do something that helps the female universe, especially the youngest, in the field of working equality. We saw that we need to say: “Put into play”. Often, for a question even perhaps unconscious and unaware, the company pushes us to make certain choices and we do not get involved as women, we do not undertake some faculties. Getting to try to try by women who have already passed us, who have already done that path of life, is important. We must let the guys know that there are difficulties, but that they must be faced, each in his own way. It is a female empowerment project, A “push” that helps to throw down a series of mental barriers that we set ourselves and that contributes to stimulating the fact that we try That it is a path of study, that it is a career, that it is the request for a moment of salary, whether it is the search for a greater role or a better life-work combination “. Alessia CappelloCouncilor for Economic Development and Politics of the Labor of the Municipality of Milan, it tells with passion the project of the pact for the work dedicated to the growth and empowerment of the girls under 30 of the city, through the support of 6 months (for a minimum of 3 meetings) to an excellent mentor in the world of the company, professions, publishing or institutions.

Over 290 girls are girls between 18 and 30 years old and 250 women in excellent positions in the world of company, professions and institutions, the protagonists of the second edition of the project Mentorship Milan. This opportunity for exchange, comparison and inspiration already in the first edition of 2023 has shown that it has a real impact in the personal and professional growth of the over 500 young people who participated, as highlighted the monitoring made by Lifeed Progress, the Division of Lifeed dedicated To the projects that promote inclusion and social equality, which returns to collaborate again this year by making available the Multime®Finder tool that allows you to discover and map skills and potential that develop in all life experiences.

In the first edition The mentoring experience showed that it had strengthened the safety and self -esteem of girls by 33% and increased by 60% the ability to manage stress, the overload of expectations and social pressures to which women are subject above all. Not only that: thanks to the mentorship, 86% of mind He discovered that he has more skills and resources at his disposal. As in the previous edition, the skills, soft skills and mentor feedback and girls will be tested both at the beginning of the project and in the end after the six months.

«A very high percentage of the girls told us that she discovered that she had talents that she didn’t think she had, that she had the skills to do things she didn’t think she had. Even the mentor side there have been significant data. Some people said they have retraced their career by finding a thread and not the randomness that he remembered in his own path. They realized that they had built their work history. We also asked for the final event to have a qualitative feedback and we read some of the testimonies arrived. Many wrote that I did not think I had opportunities and have discovered instead of having them, that with the commitment you can trust the future and that there is an individual will that counts beyond societies, parents, school. “Much depends on me, I have more optimism and more confidence in the future than I had before starting” to mention many of their words “. The councilor Cappello also recalls personal relationships, of trust and solidarity, which built between mentors and minds.

“Believing more in themselves was obviously the goal and I expected it,” says Alessia Cappello, “I did not expect this impact of construction of a network, of a relationship that goes far beyond the” I suggest you, I recommend you, I have passed, I tell you what I lived and how the obstacle can be circumvented. “a relationship of sisterhood has been created».

In this second call, the honorable Lella Golfo, president of the Bellisario Foundation as well as the first signatory of Law 120/2011 which introduced in Italy the gender shares in the boards of the administration and in the union colleges of the listed companies in Italy gave their availability. by public administrations; Francesca Airoldi, Chiefo officer Chiefs of Condé Nast; Barbara Falcomer General Director of Value D; Elena Buscemi president of the City Council of Milan; Michelle Francine Ngonmo Ceo & Founder of Afro Fashion Association; Mara Panajia delegated administrator Henkel Italia; Laura Caradonna, president of the Milan Female Consulta; Mara Servetto Co-Founder of the best design studio + servitto; Carla Morogallo, general director of Triennale Milano; Benedetta De Luca Gender & Inclusion Editor for Thewom and Content Creator; Gisella Borioli CEO of Superstudio; Francesca Colombo, general director of Bam Catella Foundation; Carolina Maria Fumagalli Brand Manager at two moons Puntaldia Resort and Golf in Sardinia and Hotel Residenza del Cardinale in Milan, and many others.

The project put in place by the Municipality of Milan also made the way for other experiences and was also replicated by the Municipality of Lodi and the Campania Region.

Explains again to Vanity Fair The councilor Cappello: «The formula is absolutely identical compared to 2023, therefore minimum three meetings in six months. Each mentor has two associated people. Participation is not precluded even if it has already done it. There will be a part of people involved who are more accustomed and therefore perhaps the form will also change, for example the place of the meetings, how to direct the chat. On the other hand, however, there is a universe that is still new and which will probably behave in the same way as the first edition “.

In the previous edition it was participating from the 16 years, this year the announcement was limited to the age of majority: a little because the authorizations multiplied by the minors, a little because, having perhaps not yet touched the difficulties of the world with your hand of work, they included the project differently. Perhaps because they have not yet gone from difficulties in the world of work. “On the other hand, having raised, I had the contacts of parents who instead kept us very much that the daughters participated.”

The key point are the obliged choices, women and those that women, erroneous, in fact consider. «We do not get involved, we do not believe we can do it, for example we do not choose the scientific subjects, we think we cannot be a engineer or the manager, we do not choose to make a child for the career or vice versa we leave our career because we have A son. They are the most trivial examples and together more real. There is always not to feel enough and we work to dismantle this concept ».

This experience is all female. «How does a man who has not experienced the impotence of opportunities to tell you that it is your limit that we can try to overcome together? He does not live this impotence and does not feel the inadequacy widespread in the female context. That’s why it is feminine: it does not want to be the creation of an “Indian reserve”, but of mutual understanding. I woman I have to be able to access all the opportunities exactly like you and instead I think I cannot access: this thing, the man does not have it, does not live it. ».
