On 29 April 2022, the Municipality of Milan, the Department of Economic Development and Labor Policies, Assolombarda, the Milan Monza Brianza and Lodi Chamber of Commerce, Confcommercio, Afol Metropolitana, Metropolitan City of Milan, CGIL, CISL and UIL signed a Pact for work to bring Milan back to the level of the major European cities for employment, quality of work, economic development, attractiveness and growth of talent, but also protection of rights, in particular of women and young people, and innovative ways of working.
Specifically, the objective that the Municipality of Milan aims to achieve with the female mentoring initiative is to support the empowerment of young womenassigning them a senior figure who, in the role of mentor, can inspire their mentee, encourage their ambition and leadership, support them in enhancing their inclinations and aptitudes.
The first edition of the project saw the candidacy of 267 mentors and 555 mentees aged 16 to 30 resident or domiciled in the province of Milan. Given the success achieved, the Municipality of Milan decided, exactly two years after the signing of the Employment Pact, to propose a second edition of the project with some objectives:
- provide a mentoring service to as significant a number of mentees as possible to support them in their growth path, both by enhancing their relational and organizational attitudes and skills, and by encouraging the request for support and advice from more experienced professionals, as a leverage development;
- develop mentor-mentee training relationships in a variety of professional sectors: fashion, design; publishing and culture; economy and business (commerce, finance, manufacturing, catering, etc.); freelance professions (lawyer, accountant, architect, etc.); public administration and public institutions.
- stimulate female networking, between generations, to develop in young women greater professional awareness and self-esteem and the ability to reason and think with a career perspective;
- raise awareness in society to exert a positive influence on key players with respect to gender equality in the workplace, to positively impact the conditions of young women;
- enhance their role in society and contribute to overcoming a gap which, at least in Italy, is still very evident.
Young women who do not pursue goals that are conflicting or inconsistent with public interests and the values expressed by this Administration can present proposals and participate in the initiative; have no ongoing disputes with the municipal administration and are in possession of the following specific requirements: be between 18 and 30 years old; be resident in the Municipality of Milan or in the Province of Milan, or domiciled there, for study and/or work reasons.
Aspiring candidates must be open to discussions with professional figures of recognized and proven competence and experience (mentor) and motivated to invest time and energy to make good use of the feedback and advice that the mentor will make available to them.
Mentees who joined the first edition will also be able to participate in the “Mentorship Milan – II edition” initiative.
Here is all the info to submit the application. Applications can be sent by 12.00 on the day November 11, 2024.
