The journalist who brought the issue to light promises new revelations about the case of bribery of MEPs that has shocked Europe.
Louis Kolar with experience since 2018 in the police and judicial reporting of Le Soir reported speaking to ERT: “We received a first piece of information about a case that was “running” and concerned the European Parliament, in September. We have since begun our journalistic investigation, which resulted in the first revelation on Fridayalongside the massive police operation launched in the city of Brussels”.
He adds that “the investigators suspect that Qatar offers money to high-ranking persons in the European Parliament and it is essentially the money that was found on Friday in very large quantities, initially, in the house of the former Italian MEP, Pier Antonio Panzeri, and later in the day, one of the vice-presidents of the European Parliament, the Greek Eva Kaili, was caught red-handed, in whose house a large amount of money was also found. We do not know the exact amount, but we are certainly talking about several hundred thousand euros».
According to the journalist, “this is only the beginning“, while underlining that: “Our main challenge is the one faced by other journalists and it is the protection of the identity of our imgs. Also, when we discuss such sensitive issues with colleagues, I would say that another challenge is to avoid in any case the interception of the discussions or the information we have obtained, a matter that is also linked to ensuring the confidentiality of our imgs”.
