The former minister and coordinator of the transition cabinet, Aloizio Mercadante (PT), signaled that he prefers the presidency of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) to Petrobras, for which he was also being quoted.
To allies, the petista has already said that he has studied economics for 40 years and, therefore, it would make more sense to be president of the bank. The nomination, however, would only come after the name was approved to occupy the Ministry of Industry and Commerce Development, which has Josué Alencar, president of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp), as the most highly regarded.
According to the PT’s allies, Mercadante’s nomination by President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) would be 90% closed.
market reaction
This Monday (12), Mercadante commented on the market’s reaction to the indication that he will be the bank’s next president and denied that the Transition is discussing changes to the State Law.
The Eurasia Group consultancy published this morning the information that Lula may publish a provisional measure in his first days in office, altering the Law of State Companies.
The former minister’s advisory also claimed that there is no impediment provided for by the State-owned Law to Mercadante’s name. “He does not hold any party position, he has not contested elections for 12 years and the collaboration of the former minister in the campaign was restricted to the elaboration of the government program”, he informed.
