Mercedes AMG will use technology from Formula 1

Mercedes plans to integrate technology from Formula 1 into AMG vehicles. The company has already announced the emergence of high-performance versions of future models. The debut of the first electric car with AMG tuning will take place at the end of 2021.

Philipp Schimier, CEO of AMG, said the company is continuing a project to use Formula 1 technology in new modifications. When developing new models, only those components are used that have proven their effectiveness during the race. The CEO added that cars powered by the AMG E-Performance platform are not just a vehicle for brand support, but a revolution in the automotive world.

The company said that the E-Performance platform will form the basis of future hybrid electric vehicles. The list of technologies used in Formula 1 is quite large: battery, exhaust turbocharger and programming to control a complex modified system. This means better throttle response and power that kicks in early.

The AMG E-Performance strategy is quite simple: the hybrid platform will use a traditional combustion engine and add an electric drive on the rear axle, including an electric motor and a two-speed transmission.

The AMG E-Performance electric motor is known to be capable of independently producing up to 200 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. The power of the car will depend specifically on the model. It is expected that the engine will be able to transmit performance directly to the wheels, bypassing the nine-speed automatic transmission in favor of its own two-speed. And when the car reaches 130 km / h, it will automatically shift into second gear.

The new modifications will feature another clever feature – a double-sided drive shaft that helps the electrical system transmit torque and balance to the front axle. Thus, the strength of the vehicle will be greatly improved. The company believes that when combined with a V8 engine, the hybrid models will be able to develop net power in excess of 800 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque, reaching a hundred in just 3 seconds.

Six driving modes will be offered: electric, comfort, sport, sport plus, race and individual. Electric cars will be produced with a 400 W lithium-ion battery and 6.1 kWh direct liquid cooling. And while exact numbers are not yet available, Mercedes AMG promises that buyers will see the next generation of vehicles. Presumably, the first model will hit the market at the end of 2021.
